HOUSE BAND

Instrument 07 · Eight residencies, one band

A band that has played every room since 1964. Each night it writes original songs in one of eight classic idioms — never anyone's actual tune, always that band's language: the chord grammar, the feel, the instrumentation. Every instrument is a physical model: plucked-string guitars, bass and piano (Karplus–Strong), tonewheel organ, acoustic-tuned drums, glockenspiel, tambourine — run through tube-style amps and a real room. No synth patches.

Songs hold real form — intro, verses, choruses, a bridge — and stay consistent: one key, one groove, fixed progressions and hooks. When a song modulates, it commits: the new key holds to the end.
